Feline Vaccines

We tailor your pet’s vaccinations to the needs of your cat

Vaccinating your pet keeps your cat healthy by preventing dangerous infectious diseases.  Cats have different lifestyles and deserve to be given individual attention and consideration at vaccination time.

At Islip Animal Hospital, vaccine programs are tailored individually for each cat. The pet’s parents are invited to take an active part in creating the vaccination plan for their pet.

In creating your cat’s vaccination plan, we will take into consideration her lifestyle such as exposure to the outdoors, travel plans, boarding plans, breed, health status and immune competence. These factors may change over time, so it’s best to review your cat’s vaccination plan at each wellness exam.  Discuss with us what you have planned for your cat’s life in the months ahead and what has happened in the past. Information about vaccination reactions in the past is of critical for your cat’s safety during future vaccinations, so be sure to discuss your cat’s vaccination history with us.

Core Vaccines-Feline

There are core vaccines we recommend for kittens and cats to prevent diseases that have significant risk to felines and are widely distributed.  Vaccination results in good protection from these diseases.  These vaccines include:

  • Feline Calcicivirus (FCV)
  • Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV)
  • Feline Herpesvirus 1 (FHV1)
  • Rabies

In addition to the core vaccines recommended for your cat, we also recommend that all cats be vaccinated against Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency virus.  We will be happy to talk to you in more detail about these vaccines during your kitten or cat’s wellness visit.
